had the phrase 'swallow the hollow sun' stuck in my head for ages and eventually made this to get it out. honestly i just wanted to draw somebody getting blasted in the face. i think it turned out pretty good.
the idea here was a world where the oceans had been replaced with deadly fog inhabited by monsters. it was partially inspired by the dead-low tides in the Gulf of Maine, where you can see the support poles for docks and wharfs.
the monster in this one is called the Keeps-You-Safe, no points for guessing what it does. I wanted to make a creature that looks completely deadly but actually devotes most of its time to protecting the vulnerable, like this terrified wizard who ran into its cave to hide.
there was a brief time where i was totally obsessed with shapeshifters that dissolved into shapes and abstraction as they transformed. no special story.
